Algard Von Palettia (アルガルド・ボナ・パレッティア Arugarudo Bona Parettia) is an antagonist-turned-supporting character of the light novel series The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady. He is Anisphia's younger brother and the former crown prince of the Kingdom of Palettia as well as Euphyllia's ex-fiancée. Following Volume 2, he is disinherited and exiled to the countryside.

Appearance[]

Algard is a handsome young man with platinum-blonde hair and blue eyes; later red eyes after becoming a vampire.

Personality[]

Algard is a complicated young man whose personality stems from his relationships with those around him. Unbeknownst to others, he never wanted to be crown prince and was angered by the position being forced onto him, leaving him without an identity of his own. His frustration toward his given role and complicated feelings toward his sister caused Algard to develop a great resentment toward the Kingdom of Palettia itself. He showed some world wariness in this regard, aware that "a country mired in tradition has no future." He also despises those who just accept their given role, which was one of the reasons why his relationship with Euphyllia fell apart.

Algard also suffers from a inferiority complex due to his abilities, be it magic or politics, being just average, especially when comparing himself with his "genius" sister and ex-fiancée. These feelings essentially overpowered his aversion toward his position, but wanting to earn it through merit rather than birthright.

To change the Kingdom, Algard attempted to stage a coup d'état which would have destroyed the peace that his father secured. However, after his plan failed, he was shown to have mellowed out a lot, taking full responsibility for his crimes and being adamant that his anger laid not with his family. He also revealed that he never lost his familial love for his sister, acknowledging that she is the country's future, and was fully aware that his coup was doomed, cutting off Euphyllia and Lainie because he did not want them to be associated with a criminal.

History[]

Growing up, Algard was very close with Anisphia, often helping his sister in her experiments. However, one day, they were attacked by a pack of monsters on the edge of the Black Forest whilst trying to retrieve a spirit stone. Acting quickly, Anisphia had Algard hide while she lured the creatures away, leaving him worrying for his sister's safety. Fortunately, Anisphia ultimately returned to him unharmed, a group of knights having come to her rescue.

Despite neither sibling being injured, however, negative rumors spread amongst the nobility. Since she was born without magic, people believed that Anisphia was trying to kill her younger brother out of jealousy. While Algard knew that this was not true and adamently denied the rumors, it prompted Anisphia to give up her right to the throne. However, this only led Algard to develop a hatred toward both his sister and society as a whole, due to how it belittles her and she how she just accepts it.

Now the crown prince, as he got older, Algard grew into a bitter young man, angry at everything being decided for him. As part of his royal duties, he had an arranged marriage with Euphyllia. However, their relationship was loveless, with the prince being disgusted at how the countess just accepted her given role. At some point, Algard stumbled upon Lainie being bullied for her commoner status by some nobles and, reminded of what happened with his sister, came to her rescue. Afterward, they became close friends and rumors even spread that they were in a relationship, though this was false.

Abilities[]

Algard's abilities have been described as "average", be it magic, politics, or academics. However, after becoming a vampire, his powers increased exponencially, enough to be able to fight on-par with Anisphia while the latter was using her Impressed Seal.

Natural abilities[]

  • Physical Prowess: Like all his other skills, Algard's fighting ability was only average. While he was able to easily overpower Ilia, he would have been defeated by Anisphia several times during their fight were it not for his regenerative ability.

Magic[]

  • Water Magic: Algard specializes in water magic, capable of producing liquid tendrils to grap his enemies or ice spikes to impale them as well as freeze solid objects and then shatter them.
  • Magic Power: As a member of royalty, Algard possesses a huge amount of magic power. So huge, in fact, that it can seemingly meet the high energy cost of the vampiric magicite in his body, causing him to not need a blood donour.

Vampire[]

  • Regeneration: After implanting Lainie's magicite into his own body, Algard became a vampire with access to their powerful regenerative ability; a constantly active healing spell that instantly heals any injuries inflicted on him. Anisphia believes that the magicite has altered his body on a cellular level and even if the crystal would be removed a new one would eventually grow in its place, making Algard's transformation permanent.
    • Eternal Youth: Due to the healing being constant, it also effectively halts Algard's aging.

Trivia[]

  • Ironically, despite implanting Lainie's vampiric magicite into his own body primarily to gain access to her Mystic Eyes, Algard ended up not inheriting the ability.
