She is usually dressed in white and later begins wearing a maid uniform after starting to work as one.

Personality[]

Being new to the nobility, along with the various difficulties she faced growing up, Lainie is a very delicate and shy person. Still, she is aware of her station, keeping her relationship with Algard as a simple friendship and approaching Ilia, who is her equal in rank, to be her blood donor.

Despite gaining a stronger control over her powers, Lainie still feels insecure about whether anyone can legitimately love her. It took assurances from Tilty Claret before she could finally accept that Ilia's feelings for her were genuine.

History[]

Lainie was born out of wedlock to her father, Dragus, and her mother, Tiris, who was secretly a vampire. Growing up, she lived on the road with her mother, constantly moving from place-to-place. Despite this, however, Lainie lived a happy life with her mother. Unfortunately, her mother was ultimately unable to handle their lifestyle, falling ill and dying soon afterward.

Following her mother's passing, Lainie was taken in by an orphanage. While initially getting along with her new foster siblings, over time, strange things began to occur as her peers began fighting each other for her attention. As a result, people believed she was cursed and causing her to be moved from orphanage-to-orphanage, where events would repeat themselves. In truth, these events were caused by Lainie's mystic eyes manifesting, which made others infatuated with her. She continued to be moved around until her biological father discovered her and he promptly took custody of her, allowing to her finally gain a home and effectively promoting her to nobility.

After it was discovered that Lainie could use magic, her family to encouraged her to attend the royal academy. However, while there, her mystic eyes charmed several of her peers, including Navre Sprout and Saran Meckie. In addition, since students were mostly nobles, she was also bullied for being born a commoner. This continued until the crown prince, Algard Von Palettia, personally came to her defense, after which they became friends. Although Lainie was careful to not get too close with the higher ranked Algard, rumors soon spread that they were in a relationship. This prompted Algard's fiancé, Euphyllia Magenta, to request Lainie cease contact with Algard to prevent a scandal. However, while she attempted to do so, Algard and the other students she had accidentally charmed refused to listen.

Abilities[]

Lainie has no combat experience whatsoever and she initially considered even her magical abilities to be just average. However, following the revelation that she is a vampire, queen Sylphine noted that she could pose an existential threat to the whole country and various powerful individuals have tried to exploit her abilities.

Natural Abililities[]

  • Athleticism: Lainie is quite strong, capable of carrying around Tilty without issue. She also has a surprising talent for swordsmanship, with it even having been noted that she would make an excellent knight or assassin if not for her pacifism.
  • Miscellaneous Skills: After beginning to work as Anisphia's maid, Lainie was educated by Ilia in the various skill that the job demands.

Magic[]

  • Water Magic: Lainie specializes in water magic. While she initially believed herself to possess no talent, it is later revealed that her magic actually stems from the magicite inside her, which works by "dominating" spirits rather than resonating with them like ordinary mages. Following this revelation, Lainie's magic improved exponentially, and it is believed that she might one day rival the genius Euphyllia, who already believes that she surpasses her in water magic.

Vampire[]

  • Regeneration: The magicite inside her places Lainie under a constant healing spell that instantly heals any injuries inflicted on her. She even survived having her heart ripped out and had fully recovered by the next day. In addition, the spell remains active even if the magicite is removed and a new crystal will eventually grow in the old one's place.
    • Eternal Youth: Due to the healing being constant, it also effectively halts Lainie's aging provided she maintains enough magic power to keep it active.
  • Mystic Eyes: Lainie can hypnotize people through eye contact. This ability initially made others infatuated with her, which Tilty theorized came from Lainie's subconscious desire to be protected. However, after training under Anisphia, she became able to control it and can now use it to put others to sleep. The princess also noted that this ability is unique to Lainie, as Algard did not gain it upon becoming a vampire.
  • Blood Sucking: Lainie can absorb magic power from others by directly drinking their blood.
  • Vampiric Claws: Lainie can extend her fingernails into claws by focusing her magic power into them. They have been noted to be as sharp and durable as a sword, capable of easily killing a person if she wants to.

Weaknesses[]

  • Blood Urges: Since her magicite inside Lainie consumes more magic power than her she can generate, she is forced to take energy from others to keep it active. These moments when her magic is low materialize as strong blood urges that do not subside until satiated.
